Why Don't I Love My Life?

If you have found your way to this article, you may be asking yourself this very question every day. You may also experience confusion as you wrestle with the answer. This can make it worse because you just don’t know where to start to fix it. After all, people wake up each day and make a variety of decisions that directly and indirectly impact their lives. Most of those decisions are made in effort to maintain or try to better their lives. So how can it feel so bleak when most of your actions are made for the good of your future?

When you look at your life, are you seeing the bigger picture or just the zoomed in version of day to day? People overestimate what they can do in a day and drag themselves through the to-do list with no real outline for something bigger than what is in front of them. There is no consistent room for joy, goals, or creativity. I know what you are thinking, and you are partly correct. No, we can’t all live out our childhood dreams and ooze happiness every moment of the day. There are bills to be paid and laundry to be done. However, creating true structure in your life for the things that will actually make a difference takes work and effort. If you want to lose weight, get out of debt, write that book, are you mapping it out? Is it easier to put it off and keep telling yourself, I just need to get through these couple months then I will work on it…? If you aren’t finding purpose or happiness in your life, creating a plan to go after what you want could help you rediscover your sense of self and desire for life.

Has any of this resonated? If not, you might still be unaware of what that nagging feeling is that keeps you bored and burnt out. Unresolved issues, feelings, and past experiences may be holding you back from even being aware of what the actual problem is in your life. You may even just need to unburden yourself to help sort out what you want to change. If you aren’t happy with where you are in life and want something to change, counseling can help. Whether or not you know what you want to change or you have no idea what is holding you back, talking to someone can be the first step to transformation.
